Who We Are
Our People
Founded in May 2006, PenMet Foundation is a growing, dynamic organization governed by a volunteer board of directors. Without the time, energy, and expertise of a number of individuals—including board members, Harbor Family Park project campaign chair and committee volunteers—the Foundation would not be able to effectively accomplish its mission. Board Committees
PenMet Foundation has three standing committees comprised of board members, PenMet Parks staff and community volunteers. These committees meet regularly throughout the year and largely serve to provide governance, direction and ensure the growth and development of the organization.
- Executive Committee
The Foundation's Executive Committee is comprised of its officers and meets more frequently than the full board. Its primary function is to ensure the sound operation of the Foundation in all respects.
- Finance committee
The Finance Committee oversees the Foundation's fiscal position, reviews its financial systems and assists in development of annual report filings.
- Board Development Committee
The Board Development Committee is responsible for the general affairs of the board. General responsibilities include:
- To prepare priorities for board composition
- To meet with prospective board members and recommend candidates to the board
- To recommend a slate of officers to the board
- To conduct orientation sessions for new board members and to organize training sessions for the entire board, and
- To suggest new, non-board individuals for committee membership.
- Development & Fundraising Committee
The Development & Fundraising Committee's job is not simply to raise money. The Committee is responsible for devising a fundraising plan and overseeing the Foundation's overall fundraising and, in particular, the fundraising done by the board.
- Media & Communications Committee
The Media & Communications Committee oversees the communication strategies of the PenMet Foundation, including but not limited to, raising awareness of the PenMet Foundation, its projects and its relationship with the Peninsula Metropolitan Parks District through focused messaging, media and marketing strategies.
- Advanced Planning & Program Development Committee
Generally, the Advanced Planning & Program Development Committee works to assist the PenMet Foundation and its Board of Directors in identifying potential future park project sites, park projects, and land acquisition efforts throughout the Gig Harbor peninsula.
Special Projects & Committees
In addition, the Foundation has special project committees to assist in meeting the special needs of individual projects, such as the Harbor Family Park Project . These committees meet as needed to help the Foundation in planning, fundraising and other community out reach efforts and provide members an opportunity for volunteer service in a variety of outlets.
Harbor Family Park Campaign Committee
The Foundation’s signature project, Harbor Family Park (HFP), was launched in early 2006 with the belief that children and families in communities throughout the peninsula should enjoy convenient access to nearby parks, playgrounds, and green spaces for the various benefits they provide. The Project site is located in the Cromwell/Artondale area off the main arterial road to Fox Island; click here for more information on the Harbor Family Park project.
This multi-year project is truly one of community, and a significant undertaking.
Much work lies ahead to meet the community’s vision of a completed park by 2009! The immediate goal is to raise the $1.4 million needed to acquire the land and establish a park maintenance endowment by September 2007.
The next task will be working with the community to raise the $6.3 million needed to complete final design work, permitting, site preparation, and park development.
The Harbor Family Park Campaign Committee is comprised of the board, Harbor Family Park Committees, and many community volunteer leaders.
