. . . Building Parks For Life!

Harbor Family Park Project

The Vision
In 2005, few visionary citizens stepped forward to provide our community with a valuable last chance to purchase 19-acres of land, previously slated for residential development, to create a much-needed multi-use recreational park. By mid-2006, the PenMet Foundation took on the charge to help the Park District make this park a reality for our community.

Thanks to the resounding support from across the community, the Foundation was successful in its efforts to raise $500,000 in funds to help acquire the land and establish an endowment to assure the park will have future resources available to provide for its maintenance for the benefit of the community. The balance of the $1.3 ‑ million in acquisition funds were contributed through a matching Washington State RCO (formerly the Inter-Agency Committee) grant and the Peninsula Metropolitan Park Districtthe achievement is a tremendous example of the power of public-private partnerships!

The Harbor Family Park property is located in the Cromwell/Artondale area, on the main arterial to Fox Island. Click here for a schematic plan proposed for the park.

The Project

Participants demonstrated overwhelming support for a park that met both active and passive recreation needs. The community’s visions for the park include amenities such as:
