Campaign for All to Play - A Boundless Playground Project

The Vision

Inspired by the possibilities promoted by the non-profit organization, Boundless™ Playgrounds and Gig Harbor area parents who have children with and without disabilities, this playground will give our children a place to play – together.

A Boundless™ Playground offers much more than the required Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) “wheelchair accessibility.” It is a barrier-free space that is designed with the physical, sensory and developmental abilities of all children in mind – where children of all abilities can learn together through play, developing essential life skills.

Providing an opportunity for children of all abilities to play, learn and develop a greater understanding of each other will benefit all of our children. This understanding will allow children with special needs greater opportunities for integrating into and contributing to our society and for typically-developing children, greater acceptance, compassion and respect for differences in others. The Project

The playground will be built in 2008 at the 98-acre Sehmel Homestead Park located at 78th Avenue and Sehmel Drive NW in Gig Harbor. Here, the community will not only enjoy the first Boundless™ Playground in the Northwestern United States, but also amenities such as ball fields, a pavilion and amphitheater, tennis and basketball courts, a trail system and many other recreational opportunities.

The Campaign for All to Play

The PenMet Foundation believes that parks are for all people in our community and the plans for development of Sehmel Homestead Park have long called for a playground area.

To these ends, the Foundation’s Campaign for All to Play goal is to raise $200,000 by September 2008, to assure a certified Boundless™ Playground at the Park… and a place in our community for all to play!

Make history in Gig Harbor and help enrich the lives of all our children by helping to build the first Boundless™ Playground in the Northwestern United States! Click here for the donor/pledge form and project brochure.
